I have a problem I am using my key that I got with the last one, But it will not activate tells me I have to change key. I had the problem with the last one but was able to call in and get it activated. Now it does not give me the phone number to call in. Any help Thanks T

For a start, go to Start, Control Panel, Welcome Center and check which version of Vista you are running. Most likely Ultimate, but best to check anyway. Login to Connect/MSDN and check for where the keys are. Select "Generate new key" and use the key of the version you are running. Business, Home Basic and Ultimate all have different keys. After that, try activation again.

There is no product key area on the MSDN site I got my key in an email from Microsoft I got two keys from them one for client and the other for server. I used the same key from 5270 and that one worked with 5270 and it was the same key that I got in email now.

Try consulting MSDN admin directly then, they should help. I'm not sure if the Longhorn Beta Team can help or not... but I'll try and find out for you and get them to give you a bell :o)

To Chuck,
I honestly don't believe the beta copies of Windows Vista Microsoft is distributing at conferences has only one license. MSDN Subscribers I believe have a total of 10 installations with their copies and TAP customers and Technical Testers have about 30. So, I believe you have more chances to install the software on the same or other computers.

I cant activate at all. any key i use dosent work.

First question: Where did you obtain your copy of Windows Vista?
Are you a technical tester, technology adoption program customer or MSDN Subscriber? Those are only available channels I am aware of you can obtain Windows Vista.
If you are an MSDN Subscriber, I would recommend you contact your MSDN Administrator. Ok, you are running 5365.8 based on your header, so that excludes MSDN, which means you are technical tester or TAP Customer, I recommend you log in to connect and try one of the 5 keys made available for 5342 interim. If the problem persist, please report the issue in private ng for product activation and send in a report. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

That's why it won't work. That place is not legal in case you didn't already know that. Just wait a short while longer and you can get the public beta legally. I know the temptation is there and you just want it now, but seriously, wait just a little bit longer and hopefully you can get the public beta. The public beta will probably be here within a few weeks. (Probably before this month is over, although I'm not certain.) So just wait around. "vista user" wrote in message

Well, it says this there, which is interesting:
"Windows Vista, the next, next generation OS from Microsoft. This is the February 2006 CTP Build 5381 for those inclined to such information. "
I would wonder what exactly is in that download.
I'm curious about the product key. The download is easily available it seems (I didn't), but what about the product key? Didn't it ask for one? Was one supplied?

It's OK Kevin - I've already submitted a report to the Longhorn Abuse lot (sounds funny hehe) but it's about reporting the site itself, and not the user necessarily.

It's also funny because I have known that this website exists for several months now and it has amazed me that it hasn't been removed yet, but that's probably because there are a lot of people like me who just haven't reported it yet. "Zack Whittaker" wrote in message

Microsoft doesn't have the power to *remove* a website, it can only ask politely to remove the illegal content. If then they don't, it's the MSFT Lawyers to the rescue ;o)

It's also funny because I have known that this website exists for several months now and it has amazed me that it hasn't been removed yet, but that's probably because there are a lot of people like me who just haven't reported it yet. The site however has been reported to the LHAbuse lot - I believe they'll get onto investigating it soon.

I was given a copy of the Feb CTP (Build 5308) at a Microsoft seminar recently.
I have successfully installed, but haven't yet acrtivated as I may wipe and reinstall on a new disk, however that may take longer than is left for activaton - currently 13 days.
If I do go ahead and activate my present installation, will that prevent me from reinstalling on a new disk when I eventually get one?
I may also upgrade my graphics card - is that likely to impact activation?
Thanks

I need some help in activating the current beta, which I just downloaded. I tried to use the activation code from my build 5308, which didn't work. The current download doesn't seem to show a new activation code. I'm sitting here with my test system waiting to enter a product key ... help!
Thanks,
Dave

Hi Tom,
I downloaded the beta from the website, but nowhere on that page does it mention anything about a key! Since it is a time-limited beta, I expected it to install without a key, or that they key would be supplied. Am I missing something???
Thanks again,
Dave

Hi Dave,
If you have a product key that you need to enter open the system properties in control panel (Start -> Control Panel -> System and Maintenance - System). Then click on Change Product Key or Activate Windows now.
One quick question: Did you get the product key emailed to you are are you trying to use an existing one? If you need a new key go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/preview.mspx

Interesting... after getting the error, it wouldn't accept the product key! I had to do a cold boot & restart the install. Once I did that, it would accept the key again. This time, it seems to be installing... at least, while I am typing this,I am up to 36%. Some flag must have been set that would only clear on a cold boot.
I will let you know if the install completes. Thanks again.

Final comments on the install:
Improvements over the last beta: Sidebar on by default. Aero Glass works with my nVidia card by default! Resolution defaulted to 1280x1024 by 32 bits. Probably more, but this is just in the first few minutes. Unfortunately, no native support for the RealTek AC97 audio, which is used on many motherboards.
Will
elaborate after I get some sleep!

Hello there, I'm from germany, and have some hard time, to activate Vista Beta 2. If I try to activate it, i've got the Errorcode 0x8004fe33. There are no additional Information available...
I've suspecting the office-firewall to be the problem, because, you need to use a proxy for that, so I've needed to activate XP by telephone, now this is my main problem: It seems, that there is no activation via telephone available..
What to do now ?

What is the phone number to call MS and activate
TIA Dirk-Thomas

I think to get the phone number you need to disconnect your internet connection, attempt to activate over the internet a few times and then the activation wizard will ask if you want to activate by phone. "Dirk-Thomas Brown" wrote in message

I don't think the phone center takes Vista activation calls. I think you have to do it on the internet.

anala
This may be the number you are seeing, but there are hundreds of numbers for activation and each section of a country will have a different number, so this may not be a number that the OP can use unless he lives near where you are located.

Well, I'm from Brazil and my english is not to good. Sorry!
My suggestion is about activation. I think that a way for a backup activation could be implemented on Windows Vista. In Win XP we make use of wpa.dbl backup to restore activation in case of necessity of reinstall windows - formating HD. In Windows Vista this way is not available. For IT professionals this is very important! Simplifies the reinstall because don't require new activation.

Unless you making numerous hardware changes to the system, I don't see how it would be necessary. But you can send it in as a suggestion: For Feedback: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=55160

Hello Andre. If I have a problem with my system and if it's necessary to FORMAT HD or substitute it, can I reactivate the new installation of windows? Using the same serial? I think that in this case I have to phone to Microsoft to purchase a new serial and to proceed a new activation. This is practicable but consumes time and money. The way of backup activation in Windows XP is very helpfull because makes easy and quick the work of reinstall the systems.
Thanks for your suggestion! I sent a message for Microsoft.

Hi Zack - you were right the activation service was not installed. I did the install - but I still have the same problem and the same error. Could it be "activation overload" om the serveres?
